We do have legitimate leftists. They're probably 15-20% of the Democratic Party. But they're marginalized. Ocasio-Cortez is famous, because of her charisma and passion, but the DNC establishment would rather she not exist, and Sanders, well... don't get me started.
But the answer is that, yes, it does matter. Red/blue isn't about economics. It's cultural. 75% of Americans will prefer socialist ideas if you don't label them as socialist, and that's as true in Tennessee as Brooklyn. However, there are stark differences in how people think based on where they grew up. Capitalists use this fact to divide us against each other.
The system gives us one corporate party that leans into religious virtue signaling, and one corporate party that leans into secular virtue signaling. Nothing ever changes, and billionaires still rule us. It's grim.
